The Semi-Retired Foamer has been a railfan since he was around 5 years old, oh yes a very young age, an age when one really should avoid being involved with the gunzel community to any great extent. A few rather unsavoury people bringing that fact home.
After a few decades of train chasing, one decided to break with protocol and get married, thus leading to a severe cut in railfan activity.
Subsequent dealings with hate breeders, lunatics, mental defectives and self-appointed preservation overlords lead to an even greater decrease in my hobby participation.
However things have changed thanks to our small group of trusted mates, interest has returned, and now I have become a bit more involved yet again.
.
_
Over the years I have tried my best to further both the hobby, as well as the friendships that it brings. I have done this by setting up proactive groups both here in Australia, as well as the Philippines. It is with huge honour that I am often considered the founding father of the railfan hobby in the Philippines (my second home).
_
I don't take the hobby too seriously and I am a friend to anyone who is good and genuine. But never forgive those who have used their hate to destroy my hobby or hurt the friends within it.

Let's Make The Hobby Great Again!
I aim to share the era that I considered mine, the 80s and 90s. I also like to help promote, and even raise funds for, the various heritage societies that keep the era alive

RANDOM NSW KETTLES AGAIN

Howdee campers, as we enter December we are on collision course with the end of yet another year.

It is the time I start to wind down for a break over the festive period, using that time to enjoy life with the family, as well as using the free time to catalogue the thousands of shots I have put online over the last twelve months.

As a early Christmas present, I bring forth another festive basket full of kettle shots for you to enjoy.

The 3801 is unquestionably the most famous kettle in 'New South Wales', if not Australia.
Seemingly everyone's grandfather has driven it, while it is what the average Joe Blow thinks about when you mention steam trains.

2605 is seen here after the disasterous fire at the 'State Mine Heritage Park'. Thankfully, unlike the carriage behind her, she will live on.
The locomotive was built for the government railways, but was later sold to the 'Portland Cement Company' for use at their Portland plant.

5910 on a tour to the seaside location of Kiama (Illawarra line). Above she is seen awaiting to cross another train at Albion Park, and flying through the small location of Yallah.

5910 is seen at the end of journey to Kiama.

The South Maitland Railway 10 class are by far my favourite kettle, not that the favourites list is a very long one. :-)

3001 3642 3801 make a fine looking, and sounding, triple header along the Picton to Mittagong loop line.

Lachlan Valley Railway Society

I've long had a huge interest in what the Lachlan Valley Railway does. From their former (and hopefully future) operations around Cowra, to their extensive mainline operations, the museum gives a huge amount to rail heritage.
In more recent times, I have had the pleasure of being involved with them through the fundraising tours my former 'S*M*U*T Modellers Group' ran to Naradhan and Lake Cargelligo.
Both times, the museum went above and beyond for us.
If you are wishing to run a tour, I can't recommend them highly enough.

The following photos show a tour to Canowindra (now closed branch to Eugowra) back in the late 80s.
The photos show 1989, but I am fairly certain it was 1988.

Dorrigo Steam Railway & Museum

I've been lucky enough to visit this fascinating collection of locomotives and rollingstock, the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere.
While walking around, you cannot help but be amazed by it all, and thankful that it did not find itself in a Port Kembla blast furnace.
Below are a couple of the kettle shots taken, the diesels I shall cover in a later post.

2408 (Bunnerong Powerhouse #7) - Dubs and Co - 2631 of 1891
I personally remember this locomotive in operation at Bunnerong. It would trundle past the papermill when I was very young, the crew one day stopping to offer me a ride.
