Yass Junction Station

Opened As Yass: July 1876
Renamed Yass Junction: April 1892

Yass is an Aboriginal word meaning 'Waters'.

Yass Junction is served by two Sydney/Melbourne XPT services, in each direction, each day.

It also is served twice a week by the Griffith Explorer service (To Griffith Wed & Sat, From Griffith Thur/Sun)

Looking towards Melbourne.

Despite being double tracked, with two platforms, services in both directions use platform 1.

The waiting room is in substantially better condition that that which we found at Harden (to be covered later).

Below: The line to the left is the former Yass Town branch, which was formally closed in 1988.

Yass Town station is now a museum.

Nowadays, disappointment is a major part of travelling around inspecting the heritage railway stations out in the country.
But it was incredibly sad to see that closure of the railway bridge was the usual easy way out for the footbridge here.

It was always an easy, popular, and safe way to watch trains passing through. Alas, now one less legal way for people to go about their hobby.

The rail was a tad more direct, but by road it would no doubt be much faster.

Because I have little better to do than make low quality videos to inflict upon the world, I have been busy putting together quite a few extra before my usual

Christmas break (yeah, I have one).
As always, the topics are very wide ranging, with the extremely unprofessional camera work you demand of us.

Shooting over to the Philippines, we have a good look at Del Gallego station on the main line south to Legaspi.

This was only the third tour that SETS ever operated. It visited Cronulla and Helensburgh, and featers run pasts, on train trills, cab rids and the vast array of interesting railfans from the era.
Two part series.

My first road trip was a circular tour of the Riverina and western regions of New South Wales in 1987. I recently found some of the footage taken on this trip and am in the process of putting it on Youtube.
The first episode takes in Goulburn yard and the roundhouse before it became a museum. Yass Town when still in use, Yass Junction, Bowning, Binalong, Cunningar and Harden. Of course there are a number of trains throughout.
