Trains In The Snow.

Today we were privileged to be sent a good selection of photos of trains, and stations, covered in snow.  This late winter event courtesy of a major weather event that has moved it's way across 'New South Wales' from the south.
While it has not been ideal for any local brass monkeys, it has been great for those sporting a camera.

Thankfully, railway infrastructure historian, Andrew Tailby, went out into the field and returned with these great images.

SOLIS SIGNALBOX

The railway signalbox is an endangered species in Manila, with only two still standing (Solis and Abad Santos). Another two (Yuseco and Caloocan) have existed since my first visit in 1999, but both have since been destroyed.

Solis is located on the north fork of the main junction for the south and the former north lines.

With Abad Santos (a RIHSPI) in a very bad state of repair, it is hoped that work can shortly start on saving it from further decay.

In recent years there have been proposals to preserve this very historic structure, primarily from the 'Manila Railroad Club', an offshoot of the former RIHSPI group.

LAST DAY OF OPERATIONS

  It is perhaps timely that I share these shots given that the recent development at the racecourse has seem much of the remaining rail related infrastructure wiped from the face of the earth.
  The signalbox survives at the Rail Transport Museum in Thirlmere, but most everything else here is no more than a distant memory.

Quarter of a century later and the 'Strange Modelers of Universal Trains' run a tour that saw me again return to the racecourse station, this time by bus.
