The Semi-Retired Foamer has been a railfan since he was around 5 years old, oh yes a very young age, an age when one really should avoid being involved with the gunzel community to any great extent. A few rather unsavoury people bringing that fact home.
After a few decades of train chasing, one decided to break with protocol and get married, thus leading to a severe cut in railfan activity.
Subsequent dealings with hate breeders, lunatics, mental defectives and self-appointed preservation overlords lead to an even greater decrease in my hobby participation.
However things have changed thanks to our small group of trusted mates, interest has returned, and now I have become a bit more involved yet again.
.
_
Over the years I have tried my best to further both the hobby, as well as the friendships that it brings. I have done this by setting up proactive groups both here in Australia, as well as the Philippines. It is with huge honour that I am often considered the founding father of the railfan hobby in the Philippines (my second home).
_
I don't take the hobby too seriously and I am a friend to anyone who is good and genuine. But never forgive those who have used their hate to destroy my hobby or hurt the friends within it.

Let's Make The Hobby Great Again!
I aim to share the era that I considered mine, the 80s and 90s. I also like to help promote, and even raise funds for, the various heritage societies that keep the era alive

----------------------------------------------------------

Victorian C504 keeps 4831 company.
The C class is still with us, but 4831 was scrapped while still in her original Indian Red livery (seen here).

8045 undergoing repair at Delec.
Today, 8045 is scrapped, as are 8001 and 8034 below.

The damage that saw 8001 withdrawn is readily apparent in this shot at Hope Street.

4401 has a peak inside the shed.
This 'World Series' ALCo was one of the lucky one's, having gone on to preservation. Even though that is now as a static display at the Junee Roundhouse Museum.

A couple of shots from my earliest Delec visits.
8156 was only a few years old when this shot was taken, and she is still with us to this day.

48127 is one of the fast dwindling number of 48 class (ALCo DL531) still in existence.
A recent status update can be found HERE.

They look similar, but they aren't.
8650 was a trial tri-bo locomotive, having three sets of 4 wheel bogies. The rest of the class, 8601-8649, all having the more standard six wheel bogies.
8650 has thankfully been preserved by the 'Dorrigo Steam Railway and Museum', while 8615 is now believed to be running around the streets of Incheon in South Korea as a 2004 model Hyundai.

Delec looking north.
19th August 1986

Two locomotives that are still with us around 35 years later.
7344 would latter be painted in a metro version of this livery, with the Indian Red replaced with an attractive light green. She is owned by 'Transport Heritage NSW' and was recently placed in the care of 'The Railmotor Society' who, regretfully, decided to paint it back in to the Indian Red livery above.
48161 is owned by Pacific National.

A rather new G520 in Enfield yard.
She be with Pacific National also.

Former MRC, W2841 is now presumed to be scrapped.

Time was fast running out for the 44 class and many of our nights were spent around Delec and Hope Street witnessing their final movements.
4486 is another 44 that has made it into preservation.

4479, not that you can easily tell. Locomotive has since been scrapped.

Poor old 4405 also got the chop.

The famous David Henderson paying his respects to these workhorses.

4451 as since gone to god.

Class leader 4401 again.

Well there ya go. This was planned to be the last in the series, that was until yesterday when a heap more Delec notes were uncovered.
There are still hundreds of Delec shots gradually coming forth as I go through box after box of photos. For this I humbly apologise.

So I am afraid that you will be forced to endure more down the 'track'.

Want to go on a fascinating steam train tour to a location that has not seen a steam locomotive for decades.
We still have a few seats available on our May 15th trip to Boree Creek.

DELEC LOCOMOTIVE DEPOT PART 3

Howdee, time for another dreary selection of Delec notes, sightings and photos from the 80s and 90s.

A bit of a ferret through the boxes revealed a few Delec related documents that I must have hoarded (I am a real bad document hoarder) over the years.
In part two I photographically covered the Delec Open Day on June 22nd, 1996. Since then I have come across the welcome brochure from same.
If anyone has any Delec related documents they would like to share, please shoot us an email.

The 90 class are heavy Hunter coal traffic locomotives and were only ever seen in Sydney for wheel lathe attention at Delec.
Until I started cataloguing all the collection, I didn't realise how many times I got lucky with finding them there.
This is three such occasions.

8172 is her former bicentennial livery.

8004 has a peek out of the loco shed.
Today she is a long term stored resident at Werris Creek.

8040 is also in the former bicentennial livery.
Today she is no longer with us.

48100 would go on to be owned by Graincorp and renumbered 48204.
She has been in storage, but a bumper grain season will likely see her in use again.

4871 would go on to be rebuilt as PL2, then later scrapped.

4870 would go on to be rebuilt as PL3, then later scrapped.

48165 is another wearing the bicentennial livery.
Today she is stored at Werris Creek, has been for some time, and may have been retained for heritage reasons, depending on what story is actually true. If indeed true, it would certainly be great to see her wear this again.

42207 in her unique light blue livery at Delec.
Today she is with OneRail as their 2207.

CAR1 was formerly 4812, but after sale to Cargill for use as their shunter on Kooragang Island (Newcastle).
Today it is scrapped (following stripping in Junee), as is 8634 next to her.

42104 was the only one of her class to wear the reverse livery. She is seen looking very unhappy at Hope Street on May 20th, 1990.
She would soon do her final trip, going to Sims Metal at Mascot.

A rather gloomy Delec day.
G518, along with G517, would go on to be destroyed at Ararat in a collision during November 1999.
4490 has faired better, no being preserved at Thirlmere.

Reverse liveried 4606 is now scrapped.

As is 4634.

42207 in reverse livery at Hope Street (see her in the unique light blue livery above).
Today she is with OneRail as their 2207.
8146 is with Pacific National.

8646 seen next to 4638 during the Delec
open day (21-6-1996).
Interestingly, she would also go on to be preserved, and today is on static display at Thirlmere.
