MELBOURNE BUSES 1987

Way, WAY, back in 1987 (that was the old days kiddies), I ventured on down to the tiny hamlet that is Melbourne in search of local trams and trains to aim one's camera lens at.
Over the two weeks that followed, a friend toured me from one end of suburbia to the other, along with a couple of brief adventures to more regional locales.
While partaking in the earlier mentioned train/tram picture taking, the occasional bus would get in the way and have it's image captured as well.
Given the immense interest in old buses that seems to exist nowadays, I have collected them all here for you to enjoy, dislike, or show complete disinterest.
 All were taken in my earlier years of photography and on an old aim and shoot camera. So don't be expecting photographic masterpieces, as you will likely be substantially disappointed by it all.

Unsure of the history of this bus, nor where the 'Jesus Special' was headed too.

 'Moonee Valley Bus Lines' Bedford SB5 with a Domino body.
Believed to be one of only two.

V/Line bus at Spencer Street station.

Was later sold to VBus of Altona, but has been onsold again and
situation is unknown.

Bedford VAM70 with Athol Hedges body, new in 1972.

SILVERWATER 1986

  Back in the days before trains started to really float my boat, I was quite heavily into buses. Like most public transport types, it was all vastly more interesting back in those days, this gradually declining until it became the empty 

soulless hobby it is today.

  In the mid 80s I used to attend the bus and coach show with my trusty, although quite bodgy, Kodak 126 Instamatic camera. I have been gradually finding some of the images taken in 1986.

  Sadly, all are of a really bad quality, but they are what they are.

FAREWELL LADY NORTHCOTT

AGAIN.

I think October 22nd was the fourth time I have been in to Sydney Harbour to farewell the two harbour icons, LADY HERRON and LADY NORTHCOTT. Each time you feel saddened that you will probably never get to ride these ferries that you grew up with.
Only a couple of months ago we were riding LADY HERRON on the Taronga Zoo run, before going out to Balmain to see a retired NORTHCOTT.
 This time it was the other way around, HERRON at Balmain for a couple of weeks and NORTHCOTT carrying large amounts of passengers to the zoo.
  Large amounts they were as well. With a capacity twice that of the new garbage infesting the harbour, they do not leave people behind at the zoo (as the new VICTOR CHANGE was noted to do).
While this was to be the last day of operation, she did a few runs on Monday and Tuesday before heading to Balmain to join her sister resting and thinking about their long and glorious career.
However, all may not be over. With the more modern ferries unlikely to cope with summer traffic, it is expected that at least one will see some use over this peak period.
  While there is a hugely popular plan to retain them and a petition launched to give to the government.

Join me below as I look back on a days worth of cruising the harbour on it's finest lady.
