OPERATION HURRICANE 2002

 

Way back in 2002, along with Daven and Chris Walters (not related), I ventured north to Cairns for a fortnight of hunting cane locomotives from Mossman Mill down to Moreton.

The aim was to see how many locomotives we could photograph on the trip and, while I can't actually recall the number, it was in the vicinity of 300 (including some preserved ones not listed below).

Also not listed below are the sightings at Moreton Mill, as my cataloguing efforts have seen my doing that mill separate to the rest.

Somehow I have never made it to this part of Beresfield previously.

Given the reemergence of the AMPOL name, it seems that Curley may have been able to tell the future.

Great to see the original logo, and in such great condition.

Dr Cooties was found lurking around Tarro.

Coal hopper PHWH-02162 retains the old G&W logo, despite now being owned by One Rail, and with another possible change to come.

Coal hopper QHAH-51671 is one of many to still retain the old QR National name.

Nice to see this footpath upgrade. It now cuts a good five metres off a walk to the station.

I'm thinking this is the first time I have scored four trains in the one shot. Took over 50 years, but it was worth it I guess.
