The Semi-Retired Foamer has been a railfan since he was around 5 years old, oh yes a very young age, an age when one really should avoid being involved with the gunzel community to any great extent. A few rather unsavoury people bringing that fact home.
After a few decades of train chasing, one decided to break with protocol and get married, thus leading to a severe cut in railfan activity.
Subsequent dealings with hate breeders, lunatics, mental defectives and self-appointed preservation overlords lead to an even greater decrease in my hobby participation.
However things have changed thanks to our small group of trusted mates, interest has returned, and now I have become a bit more involved yet again.
.
_
Over the years I have tried my best to further both the hobby, as well as the friendships that it brings. I have done this by setting up proactive groups both here in Australia, as well as the Philippines. It is with huge honour that I am often considered the founding father of the railfan hobby in the Philippines (my second home).
_
I don't take the hobby too seriously and I am a friend to anyone who is good and genuine. But never forgive those who have used their hate to destroy my hobby or hurt the friends within it.

Let's Make The Hobby Great Again!
I aim to share the era that I considered mine, the 80s and 90s. I also like to help promote, and even raise funds for, the various heritage societies that keep the era alive

Yass Junction Station

Opened As Yass: July 1876
Renamed Yass Junction: April 1892

Yass is an Aboriginal word meaning 'Waters'.

Image copyright of Google and used as per their terms and conditions.

Yass Junction is served by two Sydney/Melbourne XPT services, in each direction, each day.
It also is served twice a week by the Griffith Explorer service (To Griffith Wed & Sat, From Griffith Thur/Sun)

Looking towards Melbourne.

Despite being double tracked, with two platforms, services in both directions use platform 1.

The waiting room is in substantially better condition that that which we found at Harden (to be covered later).

Above: The former platform for trains to Yass Town.
Below: The line to the left is the former Yass Town branch, which was formally closed in 1988.
Yass Town station is now a museum.

Nowadays, disappointment is a major part of travelling around inspecting the heritage railway stations out in the country.
But it was incredibly sad to see that closure of the railway bridge was the usual easy way out for the footbridge here.
It was always an easy, popular, and safe way to watch trains passing through. Alas, now one less legal way for people to go about their hobby.

The rail was a tad more direct, but by road it would no doubt be much faster.

DELEC LOCOMOTIVE DEPOT PT8

Thanks to those who have sent their thoughts on the Delec series. What was only going to be a few posts, looks set to reach part 10.
If you have any Delec documents that we can add, I would very much like to hear from you. Surely I can't be the only person who hoards paperwork souveniers :-)

Hunter heavyweight, 9020, is seen at Delec for wheel lathe attention. All the class would have visited for wheel attention, these visits being the only time they were seen in Sydney.
After a period in storage, 9020 was recently transferred to Cardiff for stripping and, according to initial reports, scrapping. However, recent reports suggest the future may be a little different.
We shall wait and see.

8172 still roams the rails, nowadays owned by Pacific National.

4806 was the depot shunter for many years. At one stage it was named BRUCE, apparently after a worker at the depot and not the legendary Bruce Cook (that was seriously a rumour).
I only just noticed while compiling this that the BRUCE was later removed from the illuminated number board area, reverting to just 4806, while still named.
Today 4806 is believed to be owned by Sydney Ports and there has been talk of it going on display at some stage.

4820 was at Junee Railway Workshops for a rebuild (never completed). It is thought that much of it is still there.

8001 sits at Hope Street, showing the signs of a rather severe collision. She would soon be heading for scrap.

4827 still in operation with Sydney Trains.

4809 on a passenger car transfer.
Below there is a photo of her a few years later, stripped and just behind that small dirt mound in the background.

4843 was initially sold to Silverton Rail, but is now 48s35 with SSR.

The historic 4801 has long been stored as part of Transport Heritage NSW. More recently it was in store at Broadmeadow.
Recent rumours suggest that it is/has been scrapped.

4836 now owned by Junee Railway Workshops.

4839 now scrapped.

4807 preserved operational by THNSW.

4803 preserved operational by THNSW.

4822 now preserved by the Dorrigo Steam Railway and Museum.

4809 scrapped, not surprisingly.

4810 also scrapped.
