D39 - Bluescope (Port Kembla) Shunter
The following shots were taken at the Boom Siding, on the former jetty branch beyond Port Kembla station. D39 had the distinction of being the first steelworks 'English Electric' scrapped here during Pacific National's
grand 2017 heritage massacre.
Many were to following in the coming weeks, resulting in only one example of the local 850hp and 1010hp still surviving.....but for how long.
Despite many pleas from heritage groups, D39, and so many friends, would shortly meet their end in this same spot.

D39 In Happier Days.
D39 was unique in receiving the yellow handrails visible in the following two shots. The idea, so I was told, was to improve worker safety in the locomotive workshops while maintenance was being undertaken.
D39 on the now closed section of line into the 'Commonwealth Rolling Mills' at Port Kembla north. The yard is now shunted from the eastern entrance and the track was noted to be in somewhat bad condition.
Note the variation in her blue livery from the later one above. It is thought the change occured around the same time she received the yellow railing on top.
