The Semi-Retired Foamer has been a railfan since he was around 5 years old, oh yes a very young age, an age when one really should avoid being involved with the gunzel community to any great extent. A few rather unsavoury people bringing that fact home.
After a few decades of train chasing, one decided to break with protocol and get married, thus leading to a severe cut in railfan activity.
Subsequent dealings with hate breeders, lunatics, mental defectives and self-appointed preservation overlords lead to an even greater decrease in my hobby participation.
However things have changed thanks to our small group of trusted mates, interest has returned, and now I have become a bit more involved yet again.
.
_
Over the years I have tried my best to further both the hobby, as well as the friendships that it brings. I have done this by setting up proactive groups both here in Australia, as well as the Philippines. It is with huge honour that I am often considered the founding father of the railfan hobby in the Philippines (my second home).
_
I don't take the hobby too seriously and I am a friend to anyone who is good and genuine. But never forgive those who have used their hate to destroy my hobby or hurt the friends within it.

Let's Make The Hobby Great Again!
I aim to share the era that I considered mine, the 80s and 90s. I also like to help promote, and even raise funds for, the various heritage societies that keep the era alive

FAREWELL LADY NORTHCOTT

AGAIN.

I think October 22nd was the fourth time I have been in to Sydney Harbour to farewell the two harbour icons, LADY HERRON and LADY NORTHCOTT. Each time you feel saddened that you will probably never get to ride these ferries that you grew up with.
Only a couple of months ago we were riding LADY HERRON on the Taronga Zoo run, before going out to Balmain to see a retired NORTHCOTT.
This time it was the other way around, HERRON at Balmain for a couple of weeks and NORTHCOTT carrying large amounts of passengers to the zoo.
Large amounts they were as well. With a capacity twice that of the new garbage infesting the harbour, they do not leave people behind at the zoo (as the new VICTOR CHANGE was noted to do).
While this was to be the last day of operation, she did a few runs on Monday and Tuesday before heading to Balmain to join her sister resting and thinking about their long and glorious career.
However, all may not be over. With the more modern ferries unlikely to cope with summer traffic, it is expected that at least one will see some use over this peak period.
While there is a hugely popular plan to retain them and a petition launched to give to the government.

Join me below as I look back on a days worth of cruising the harbour on it's finest lady.

Wooohoooo, first time in the cab. Ahhhmmmm wheelhouse.

Nothing beats the beauty of Cremorne Point.
Thanks Taki.

The new ferry DAVID HAMLIN heads back to the QUAY from Double Bay.

Trust you enjoyed your Sydney Harbour adventure.

SMUT NEWS

As part of SMUT's continuing commitment to furthering the preservation scene and railfan retail industries, we have launched a trial website aimed at promoting such.
All posts placed on the site are done so free of charge and people are invited to email us with possible contributions of relevance. All contributions should be relevant to the two topics.
Retailers are invited to show us new products.

Thank you to all our SMUT supporters for helping us promote and grow this wonderful hobby.
Thank you to all our haters for showing us how important it is to help promote the hobby for the future.....oh and a pretty good laugh.

I have lost access to all SMUT groups on Facebook for a week.
Yet another attack from someone wishing to put a stop to what our group does.
While we have a good idea who this person is, we are awaiting a response from Facebook, a response that will hopefully confirm this suspicion.
If that confirmation comes, it will be placed up here.
Until the ban is lifted, I apologise for any lack of group responses during this time.
Sadly, there are many in this hobby who are offended by the work we do.

DEB Set Fundraising Raffle 2017 No. 3

How can you help see a 12 inch to the foot scale DEB? By assisting in reintroducing it before its HO scale replica is released!
As usual I will ask that you can share as many times as you can, this is quite an investment and the more people involved the greater profits go to returning a NSWGR DEB Set back into service - preferably before the HO scale replica is released!
This is a Special raffle as all 3 prizes are roughly the same, however listed in my preference!
Now I would sit here and explain the history of the prize train but let’s be fair….. If you don’t know by now maybe this is not the group for you (joking, but best to start reading!)

FIRST PRIZE – HO scale Eureka NSWGR 4 Car DEB Set (Reverse Livery) with Sound.
SECOND PRIZE – HO Scale Eureka NSWGR 4 Car DEB Set (Indian Red Livery) with Sound.
THIRD PRIZE – HO Scale Eureka NSWGR 4 Car DEB Set (Candy Livery) with Sound.

As you all know the sets have not arrived yet, however they are ordered and paid for. As soon as they land they will be delivered to the winners. I will keep everyone up to date on arrival times for the sets.

Donate HERE and help this important project.

NOTE; This has not been started to begin a flame war with the Candy Community. Maybe.
To be drawn on April 14th 2018.

KOREAN AIR 747-8B5

Spring has sprung and Korean Air celebrates by sending their awesome new B748s our way.

Sadly, this is only a temporary thing, with the airline expected to start throwing the far less attractive A380 our way for summer.
