The Semi-Retired Foamer has been a railfan since he was around 5 years old, oh yes a very young age, an age when one really should avoid being involved with the gunzel community to any great extent. A few rather unsavoury people bringing that fact home. After a few decades of train chasing, one decided to break with protocol and get married, thus leading to a severe cut in railfan activity. Subsequent dealings with hate breeders, lunatics, mental defectives and self-appointed preservation overlords lead to an even greater decrease in my hobby participation. However things have changed thanks to our small group of trusted mates, interest has returned, and now I have become a bit more involved yet again.. _ Over the years I have tried my best to further both the hobby, as well as the friendships that it brings. I have done this by setting up proactive groups both here in Australia, as well as the Philippines. It is with huge honour that I am often considered the founding father of the railfan hobby in the Philippines (my second home). _
I don't take the hobby too seriously and I am a friend to anyone who is good and genuine. But never forgive those who have used their hate to destroy my hobby or hurt the friends within it.
Let's Make The Hobby Great Again!
I aim to share the era that I considered mine, the 80s and 90s. I also like to help promote, and even raise funds for, the various heritage societies that keep the era alive _ **** LOCOMOTIVE/ PUBLICATIONS **** - We occasionally publish information on the locomotives, and rollingstock, from railways in Australia and the Philippines. All are available forFREEat our ALR WEBSITE.

CALTEX/AMPOL FUEL SIDING
Bomen (Near Wagga Wagga)
At the time, fuel tankers had been stored in these siding since the cessation of rail hauled fuel trains. Not long after these photos were taken, it is believed all were purchased by Manildra and railed to Narrandera. Information on their future use would be appreciated.

During the 80s and 90s I spent a huge amount of time around Victoria. I recently came across the first large bundle of shots from these trips and have started scanning them to show here. During the course of 2017 I will be pre-programming this new series to appear monthly. If your not a big fan of the railways in Victoria (what is wrong with you?), there will still be the other regular variety of posts that probably go largely ignored. So sit back and enjoy the series, one that I am actually putting together way back in October 2017.
Took me some time to work out what station this was. :-) The 'All Stations To Broadmeadow' ended up being the pivital clue.
Not a thing was rostered to run in daylight on the day we arrived in Maryborough. Luckily this was sitting in the yard and that it was in the pre-rail nazi days.
930s just float my boat.
V/Line orange and grey. It was Victoria's candy livery.
Even on the quietest of Main South days, at least you had the two 'Intercapital Daylight Expresses' to pass some time. At this stage it was normally either an 81 or a G.
Fare evader.
The Overland arrives from Adelaide after it's long overnight journey.
The Overland arriving Keswick (Adelaide) at the other end of it's nightly journey.

RICHMOND VALE RAILWAY
1987
Part 1
The Semi-Retired Foamer visits the historic 'Richmond Vale Railway' in the final months of it's existence. This railway carried the distinction of being Australia's last commercial steam operated railway and would be gone before the year was out.
Blue SMR22 was the locomotive in use on the day. We see her shunting at Hexham, before following her out to Stockrington Colliery and back. In between, we see a few views of passing coal and passenger traffic on the mainline.
WARNING FOR THE WHINGERS
This is a low-quality video, taken way back in 1987 on VHS and has deteriorated greatly. As a railfan, I do understand it is your duty to point out these flaws. As I already know of the bad quality, it is probably pointless to do so, however, if it makes you happy, whinge on.
BRUCE COOK
This two-part series is dedicated to the late Bruce Cook (who makes brief appearances). Bruce was instrumental in growing the hobby for me and will long be remembered for the phenomenal tours he operated. Bruce was an icon of my railfan era, an era without the internet and it's associated hate, an era when you gathered lineside, chatted and had fun.

SYDNEY BUSES - 1986
The Leftovers
The short remaining bit of bus footage from Circular Quay back in 1986. Leylands and Mercedes buses make up the bulk of buses
in this new video.
To fill out the video viewers are treated to some good old 80s street entertainment with 'Bollocks The Clown'. Bollocks was a regular at Circular Quay during this period.

Semi-Retired Foamer Video
Low Quality 80s Video For Viewing Pleasure.
No Tripods Used - Little Thought Given - Deteriorated Tape
I Was Talking Over Video Decades Before Floggers Started Multiplying.
SYDNEY BUSES - LATE 80s
Leyland Leopards - Mercedes - Australian Pacific
Pier One - AAT Kings - More
EL56 (DORIEMUS) was not far from entering service when captured here (courtesy of the Sunnyside Tavern's garbage bin) near the entrance (exit in her case) to the Goninan factory in Broadmeadow.
At the time, none of us could have imagined the interesting life they would go on to have. They have done just about all type of duty possible.
Built for passenger trains and fast freight, the idea that one day they would be hauling coal trains on the South Maitland Railways, well, would have seems quite ludicrous. Interestingly, these runs bringing them back very close too where they were built.

Welcome to the Semi_Retired Foamers Blog!
Into trains, buses, planes, trams, light rail, jeepneys and other guff that normal people only use to get from A to B?
Sadly, I have been most of my existence.
Over the years I have built up an extensive library of train related photos, timetables, documents and other stuff which basically does buggar all other than gather dust in the archive supercentre that is my railway room.
I had long wondered what to do both this assorted guff, and all the more current shots, locomotive news and other bollocks I come across while conducting my foamer business. It lead me to setting up this blog some years ago, a blog that I have only just recently started to devote more attention too again.
Through this blog I hope to share a lot of this stuff and bore you senseless in the process. Along the way one hopes you will put up with my somewhat unusual sense of humour. Most get my strange humour, many less intelligent get quite confused. Years of putting up with many in the hobby who, well, hmmmmm I suppose you could say lunatic fringe members and control freaks, has given me more of a view of the hobby as something that is quite a joke. Certainly not the serious thing it once was. Hope you enjoy the bollocks conveyed herein.
If you feel like contacting me, please go for it.
