The Semi-Retired Foamer has been a railfan since he was around 5 years old, oh yes a very young age, an age when one really should avoid being involved with the gunzel community to any great extent. A few rather unsavoury people bringing that fact home.
After a few decades of train chasing, one decided to break with protocol and get married, thus leading to a severe cut in railfan activity.
Subsequent dealings with hate breeders, lunatics, mental defectives and self-appointed preservation overlords lead to an even greater decrease in my hobby participation.
However things have changed thanks to our small group of trusted mates, interest has returned, and now I have become a bit more involved yet again.
.
_
Over the years I have tried my best to further both the hobby, as well as the friendships that it brings. I have done this by setting up proactive groups both here in Australia, as well as the Philippines. It is with huge honour that I am often considered the founding father of the railfan hobby in the Philippines (my second home).
_
I don't take the hobby too seriously and I am a friend to anyone who is good and genuine. But never forgive those who have used their hate to destroy my hobby or hurt the friends within it.

Let's Make The Hobby Great Again!
I aim to share the era that I considered mine, the 80s and 90s. I also like to help promote, and even raise funds for, the various heritage societies that keep the era alive

THE LOCOMOTIVE DIARIES - EMD PT4

Hey there, everyone!

One of the consequences of neglecting to catalog over 300,000 photos over the years is that I’m now in full catch-up mode. While I’ve managed to organize thousands of images across various themes here on the blog, there are still many more waiting for their turn in the spotlight.

To tackle this backlog, I’m diving headfirst into sorting and categorizing a large portion of these photos in the coming months.
You can look forward to posts focused on locomotives, carriages, infrastructure, trams, and buses—perfect for anyone with even a passing interest in these fascinating subjects. Or not ..... that choice is up to you

So get ready for a flood of images from the 80s up to today. It’s going to be quite the ride  (or just plain boring)!

For Locomotive & Tram - Updates - Status - Photos.

DL50 - Port Kembla North (South Yard)
Now owned by Pacific National, but stored at Werris Creek awaiting the future.

8106 passes through Cringila (Illawarra region) with a load of coal from Elouera (Wongawilli) Colliery.
8106 is now with Pacific National, while the Elouera branch has been closed for some time.

The rather exciting combo of 8153 EL62 251 T383 833 48125 (six locos from three manufacturers) depart Cootamundra with empty wheat hoppers heading west.
8153 is still with Pacific National.

Another interesting combo with 48145 4514 FL220 passing through Gelco on the Botany railway line in suburban Sydney.
FL220 has migrated to the other side of Australia, working for Watco in Western Australia.
While we are at it, that 4514 was scrapped by Pacific National a few years back.

T411 is now preserved with the Mornington Tourist Railway.
G516 is now with Swift Transport and mostly used between Enfield Yard and Port Botany in Sydney.

Below images show the units during and after rebuild.
4903 is now with SRS Heritage, and 4906 with Lachlan Valley Railway.

ATN Access 270 254 251 pass over Springhill Road at Coniston with empty grain hoppers from Port Kembla Inner Harbour.
All three would eventually become part of Pacific National and later be scrapped.
While I've been a lifelong ALCo obsessive, I have to admit these looked tremendous in this livery.

1527 and 1528 stored outside the workshop in Redbank, Brisbane.
Both were sold to FCAB in South America, but have subsequently been scrapped.

42302 was built as 1507 and used in Queensland until rebuild (and regauging) for use in New South Wales. It has since been scrapped.

P22 awaits departure from Stony Point station (Victoria) back in the loco hauled days.
Ownership would go to Freight Victoria/Australia, Pacifi National, then to the Seymour Rail Heritage Centre (who painted her in the old VR Blue), then more recently to the Ettamogah Rail Hub.
