The Semi-Retired Foamer has been a railfan since he was around 5 years old, oh yes a very young age, an age when one really should avoid being involved with the gunzel community to any great extent. A few rather unsavoury people bringing that fact home.
After a few decades of train chasing, one decided to break with protocol and get married, thus leading to a severe cut in railfan activity.
Subsequent dealings with hate breeders, lunatics, mental defectives and self-appointed preservation overlords lead to an even greater decrease in my hobby participation.
However things have changed thanks to our small group of trusted mates, interest has returned, and now I have become a bit more involved yet again.

Over the years I have tried my best to further both the hobby, as well as the friendships that it brings. I have done this by setting up proactive groups both here in Australia, as well as the Philippines. It is with huge honour that I am often considered the founding father of the railfan hobby in the Philippines (my second home).
_
I don't take the hobby too seriously and I am a friend to anyone who is good and genuine. But never forgive those who have used their hate to destroy my hobby or hurt the friends within it.

Let's Make The Hobby Great Again!
I aim to share the era that I considered mine, the 80s and 90s. I also like to help promote, and even raise funds for, the various heritage societies that keep the era alive

The forthcoming duplication of the remaining single track section of the Botany line has motivated me to go out and photograph as much as still accessibly possible in 2021.

Last week it was the older bridges in Mascot. At this time, the future of two seem bleak, with the others unknown.

1

Botany Road, Mascot.

Built for double track, with a deck that appears wide enough for two tracks already.

The ARTC website lists no alterations to take place.

2
O'Riordan Street, Mascot

ARTC mentions new and replacement bridges for this location.

3
ARTC mentions new and replacement bridges for this location. Though they both sound to me to be the same.
Unsure how you can have a new bridge here without it actually being a replacement.
This span is historically significant, reports saying that is is the first welded steel railway bridge to be built in New South Wales (1965).

Interesting to note the removal of the advertising (see below) from the south side of the bridge, revealing the old DHL advertising underneath. This has been done since this 2020 Google image, in preparation for the bridge replacement.
The phone number for Wiseman's Signs, who still exist, is in the old seven digit format. These changed to the current eight digits during the 90s.

Google image used as per Google terms and conditions.

4
QANTAS Drive Footbridge.
There has been almost as many reports of this footbridge being removed as there have been Botany line duplication announcements.
It now seems likely that both will finally occur in the near future.

A wee little bonus look at the entrance to Mascot sidings, at the Port Botany end. This will soon be double track.
